The Newshour Debate: Who destroyed files?

For the last 5 days, the country has been debating the Subhas Chandra Bose files. Declassified papers revealed that snooping on the Bose family for years together but the latest expose could be the biggest yet as declassified papers from the Mukherjee Commission reveal that some of key files could in fact be destroyed. Annexures accessed through declassified documents add to the mystery - not just one or two papers, but several files - for example - a proposal to bring his ashes to Delhi, and another on appointment of an enquiry committee are also untraceable. Interestingly, the crucial file - was reportedly destroyed in 1972 - at a time when the Khosla Commission was holding its enquiry into circumstances leading to the death of Netaji. Also adding to the mystery is the contrasting stands adopted by the Government with the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai claiming in Parliament that conclusions on Netaji's death maybe revisited but the Joint Secretary in the PMO completely dismissing that stand nearly 2 decades later. So what's still a state secret and the extent of what may have been destroyed is unknown.
