Mexican drug cartel boss captured: Hector Beltran Leyva busted with armed American friend

One of Mexico’s most notorious drug lords, Hector Beltran-Leyva, was arrested in the Mexican city of San Miguel de Allende on Wednesday.
Beltran-Leyva was in a seafood restaurant with an American retiree when he was arrested. Both men were carrying military-issue handguns.
Reuters reports that the cartel boss had been living in the nearby city of Queretaro, posing as a businessman dealing in art and real estate.
According to local reports, the secret operation was jointly run by the federal police and Mexican navy after 11 months of investigation.
For information leading to his arrest, the US was offering a US$5 million, while Mexico’s bounty was 30 million pesos, or US$2.2 million.
Beltran-Leyva now faces charges of trafficking cocaine from Mexico and South America to the United States and Europe. He is also accused of trafficking marijuana, heroin and methamphetamine, La Nacion reported.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the boss gang is also responsible for murdering Mexican narcotics police and military personnel.
