Police shooting: Dashcam video of Officer Charles Vill shot 5 times, allegedly by James Philips

Cobb County police officer Charles Vill was shot five times during a seemingly routine traffic stop at about 2:30 a.m. on February 4.

James Philips, who has two previous methamphetamine convictions, is the primary suspect. After firing five times at Vill, the suspects sped away. Fortunately, Vill was rushed to the hospital and survived the shooting.

After an 8-hour manhunt, police eventually found Philips hiding in the stairwell of an abandoned ranger station near the Chattahoochee River just one mile from the where the shooting took place.

Vill showed off the bullet hole scar in his abdomen as well as his missing trigger finger to members of the jury. The officer’s dashcam video was also shown in the courtroom where Vill identified Philips as the driver and the triggerman.

The defense team for Philips claims that due to the chaos of the moment Officer Vill may have mistakenly identified the defendant as the shooter.
