Ebola panic! Ashoka Mukpo, NBC cameraman who has Ebola, says we all need to calm down
  • 9 years ago
Ebola fears have certainly helped sell a lot of newspapers over the last couple of weeks, and no hyperbole has been spared.

Those with a bit more sense, however, such as NBC cameraman Ashoka Mukpo--who actually contracted Ebola and is being treated in a Nebraska hospital--says we all need to chill.

Mukpo was responding to an impassioned U.S. congressional hearing on the spread of Ebola, during which less-than-brilliant Congress people asked less-than-intelligent questions to CDC doctors.

Ebola is of course a horrifically deadly disease that has claimed thousands of lives in West Africa, and news that a man died after vomiting profusely on a flight from Nigeria that then landed at JFK Airport on Thursday did little to calm fears despite initial tests showing the man was not infected.

Some are calling for want a complete ban on flights from West Africa to the United States, but U.S. screw-ups might be scarier than West African travelers.
