Chinese weapons: China test-fires anti-drone laser called the Low-Altitude Guardian

China says it has developed an anti-drone laser system that can detect small aircraft within a 2-kilometre radius, according to a statement released on Sunday by the China Academy of Engineering Physics, one of the project’s developers.

Citing the statement, the official Xinhua news agency said the laser system, whose name translates as “Low-Altitude Guardian”, can intercept small drones flying at an altitude of up to 500 metres, at speeds below 50 metres per second, and shoot them down five seconds after detecting them.

According to the statement, the laser system shot down 30 drones in a recent test with a “100 percent success rate.”
