Child abuse: state takes toddler from parents who smoked weed, child is killed by foster mom

On Tuesday, a Texas judge sentenced Sherill Small to life in prison for the fatal killing of three-year-old Alexandria Hill on July 29, 2013.
Alex was taken out of her home when Child Protective Services found out from welfare investigators that her father Joshua Hill was recreationally smoking his wife’s medical marijuana.
The mother, Mary Sweeney, was prescribed medical marijuana for her frequent seizures.
The couple was allowed scheduled visitations to see their toddler, but when Hill saw bruises and mold on his child’s back he demanded another foster home for his little girl.
Sherill Small, 52, was found from a third party placement agency that Texas Mentor’s uses.
Small and her third husband Clemon, who has a lengthy rap sheet, were already taking care of another child before receiving Alex.
The foster mother apparently was annoyed by the little three year old asking for food and later beat her and fatally threw her on the floor.
When the Hill’s reached Temple Hospital's emergency room, they saw their lifeless daughter attached to life support machines.
