Drug dog snorts coke: K-9 hospitalized after accidentally sniffing cocaine during police raid

Northern Californian authorities announced on Monday that a police dog that had inadvertently inhaled some cocaine during a suspect search last week is now back on duty, according to an SF Bay report.

Koda, an El Cerrito police K-9, had been called in last Wednesday morning to help out with a traffic stop.

Mid-way through the search Koda came across a substance believed to be cocaine and inhaled a small amount.

While Koda had to be hospitalized, he returned to full duty the very next day.

“While every effort is made to ensure the safety of the canines, the discovery of suspected drugs can lead to this situation,” local police said in an official statement.
