A Japanese judge ruled that a woman suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder, apparently the result of an interrogation at the hands of central Japanese police, is to be awarded 110,000 yen (US$900).

The 30-year-old woman had been living in Osaka with her boyfriend, who in 2012 was arrested after allegedly molesting a woman working at a hostess bar.

The police in the city’s Wakayama Prefecture thought it’d be a good idea to question the woman as well and brought her down to the station for interrogation.

The woman says police asked her a number of deeply personal questions including “Are you in an S&M relationship?”, “How often do you have sex?” before asking a slew of other questions about her and her boyfriend’s sex life. The interrogation reportedly went on for more than 30 minutes.

The woman claims she now suffers from PTSD and has since sued Wakayama police.

On Feb. 8th, a judge found the police’s line of questioning to be inappropriate and illegal and awarded the woman nearly a grand in emotional damages.
