Chili powder jailbreak: 2 die, 13 escape after Indian inmates throw spicy powder at prison guards

Two prisoners were killed and more than a dozen are at large after a prison escape in the northeastern India province of Jharkhand.
On December 9, the prisoners were on their way back to jail after a court appearance. During headcount, several prisoners tossed chili powder into the guards faces. The inmates then fled.
Two prisoners were shot in their attempted escape. Police said several of the men at large are members of a radical group.
An investigation has been launched into how the prisoners were able to obtain the chili powder and why the exterior gate was left unsecured.
