An oil tanker and a bulk carrier collided near Singapore on Monday, causing an oil spill about 20 kilometres northeast of the island of Pedra Branca.

The Libyan-registered Alyarmouk oil tanker was en route to Yangpu, China, when it collided with the Singapore-flagged carrier ship Sinar Kapuas.

After the collision, the Alyarmouk sustained damage to one of her cargo tanks, spilling crude into the ocean.

The volume of the oil spill was not immediately clear, Reuters reported.

The two vessels were removed from the area and are safely now anchored at a harbor.

The incident caused no injuries, and traffic in the Strait of Singapore was unaffected.
