Chris Christie, Cowboys cheerleader: New Jersey governor torn between presidency and cheerleading

When New Jersey Governor Christie isn’t causing city-wide traffic jams in New Jersey, it’s no secret he spends his time cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, especially after he decided to go public about his bromance with Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones a few weeks ago.
Jerry Jones paid for Christie, his wife and four children, to fly out to Dallas on a private jet with VIP seats for the Jan. 4 game against the Motor City. Jersey taxpayers, though, paid for the around-the-clock state police protection.
What’s not so well known is that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is controlled by Christie and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, handed off a fat $12.5 million contract to former Cowboys great Roger Staubach and his real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle after Staubach threw a maximum $3,800 to Christie’s 2012 reelection campaign.
According to minutes from an April 24, 2013 Port Authority meeting, “It was recommended that the Board authorize the Executive Director to enter into an agreement with Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, Inc. to provide professional real estate development and operations support services for the World Trade Center site redevelopment, on an as-needed basis in coordination with Port Authority staff, at an estimated amount of $12.5 million through December 2015.”
Christie is now saying he paid his own way to watch the Cowboys lose to Green Bay on Sunday. But Jersey has already spent $1 million on state police travel expenses to protect Christie since he’s been governor.
