Cincinnati bridge collapse kills 1: Overpass over I-75 experiences ‘catastrophic pancake collapse’

A construction worker was killed after a section of an overpass collapsed late yesterday night.
A section of overpass that was part of the old northbound off-ramp to Hopple Street in northwest Cincinnati experienced a “catastrophic pancake collapse” at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday, according to a statement from the City of Cincinnati quoted by the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
The Cincinnati Fire Department said the overpass was undergoing demolition at the time of the incident when a section of the overpass suddenly collapsed onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 below.
A driver of a tractor-trailer narrowly missed being hit by debris. One construction worker was killed in the incident.
Investigator has described the event as a “workplace accident,” according to Cincinnati ABC affiliate WCPO.
