Climbing accident: mountaineer falls 1000-feet to his death from Alaskan peak

An experienced outdoorsmen fell to his death Sunday during a difficult climb at Mount Yukla in southeastern Alaska.

Dasan Marshall, 24, was climbing with a friend before the fatal fall. His friend called for emergency assistance.

Due to the rocky terrain, Alaska State Troopers had to call in the Air National Guard to retrieve Marshall’s body.

Marshall was enrolled at Alaska Pacific University's outdoors program. Back in Portland, he worked at Mountain Top, an outdoor goods store. His former employees took to social media to share their memories of Marshall.

"Every step we shared pushing up a mountainside or climbing will be memories I will never forget," his friend Sean Johnson wrote in a Facebook tribute.
