Car bomb explosion caught on tape: Abu Sayyaf terrorist attack in Zamboanga City, Philippines

A car bomb believed to have been planted by Islamic militant group Abu Sayyaf rocked Zamboanga City in the Philippines on Friday afternoon, killing two people and injuring 52.

Mayor Beng Climaco told ANC news network she thinks the bombing may be retaliation for the detention of 57 high-ranking members of Abu Sayyaf in the city jail. On Monday the militant group failed in an attempt to break the members out of jail.

The car bomb exploded near a karaoke bar along Maria Clara Lobregat Highway. Fifty-two people were injured, and two people were killed in the blast.

"I will ask [the president] to allow the transfer of the bandits from the city jail because their presence here poses a threat and a magnet for terrorism," Climaco said.

In a separate attack on Sunday, a clash with Islamic militants near the village of Tukanalipao left more than 30 Filipino commandos dead.
