Huge check fraud: Woman caught for forging USD 3 million to buy shiny new house

In an updated version of the Hollywood movie “Catch Me If You Can” a woman in Taipei, Taiwan stole over USD $3 million by forging company checks.

Last year, the woman stole 6 company checks from the press company she worked for. She also told her husband and in-laws that she was a “trust fund baby”. Her husband was so trusting that he quit his own job to become a stay at home dad for their newborn baby.

Two months ago she purchased two upscale condos, one in her husband’s name and the other in her brother-in-law’s name. She paid for both properties with the checks she’d stolen. The total cost of both condos was well over USD $3 million.

After the real estate company contacted the press company, they were shocked to learn that the checks had been stolen. Police began investigating the woman’s finances and it turns out that she owed so much credit card debt, a percentage of her monthly salary was being automatically deducted by the banks to pay the debt.

Now the woman has been fired and charged with check fraud.

Looks like her husband’s going to have to go job hunting if he wants to keep a roof over their heads.
