ISIS terror: American hostage Kayla Mueller, 26, confirmed dead

The White House has confirmed the death of Kayla Mueller, a 26-year-old American woman who was taken hostage by ISIS in 2013.
“We are heartbroken to share we’ve received confirmation that Kayla Jean Mueller has lost her life,” Mueller’s parents wrote in a public statement. “We are so proud of the person Kayla was and the work she did while she was here with us.”
Mueller was taken on August 4, 2013 while leaving a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Aleppo, Syria. She was reportedly on her way to the bus station to return to Turkey, where she was working.
She was the fourth and final American ISIS hostage, according to U.S. Intelligence.
On Feb. 6, ISIS released photos of buildings that had been damaged during a Jordanian airstrike. The group claimed Mueller had died in the air strike, but the White House has not confirmed how Mueller died, or how her death was confirmed.
Along with their statement, the Mueller family also released a letter written by Kayla while she was in captivity.
“I have been shown in darkness, light + have learned that even in prison, one can be free. I am grateful. I have come to see that there is good in every situation, sometimes we just have to look for it,” she wrote in that letter. She also noted she was “completely unharmed + healthy.”
President Obama expressed his condolences to the Mueller family in a statement.
“No matter how long it takes, the United States will find and bring to justice the terrorists who are responsible for Kayla’s captivity and death,” he wrote.
