Florida gators: giant dinosaur-looking alligator strolled onto golf course, freaking out golfers
  • 9 years ago
An enormous alligator strolled onto the seventh green at a Florida golf club last week an became a social media sensation.

Pictures of the reptile taken by two club members, Bill Suzie and Dick Huber of Myakka Pines Golf Course in Englewood, Florida, were posted to the club's Facebook page. The pictures have gone viral, with more than 200,000 views in just the first day, according to Reuters.

Micki Zada the club’s GM told ESPN, "We have a lot of alligators around here because there are no houses for miles and it's just open swamp land. Our members know that when they see a good one, to take pictures. And they did."

Dick Huber said, "You don't move them, they move you. Huber, a member since 2005, said the course was built on swamplands.

The club markets the appeal of gator sightings to the general public. Many at first thought the alligator shots were Photoshopped. Zada said this particular gator isn’t even the biggest one she's seen.

"We think this gator is 12 or 13 feet," she said. "We had one that lived here for years, his name was Big George, who was probably 15 feet long."

Zada said the golf course, in its 37 years of operation, has never had an incident between a golfer and a gator.
