A retired corrections officer fatally shot a man inside a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday evening.

The deadly shooting inside the Borough Hall subway station occurred after retired corrections officer Will Groomes reportedly interrupted two friends who were having a conversation on a train, which led to an argument, according to the New York Times.

The argument turned physical, and one of the two friends reportedly spit on Groomes. The three then separated.

The three men encountered each other again after the train arrived at the Borough Hall subway station, where a physical altercation ensued.

Groomes opened fire on one of the men, striking him in the chest. The man died later at a hospital.

Groomes has been taken into police custody. No charges have yet been filed.
