Vladimir Putin, Russia’s 2nd, 4th and likely future president has not been seen since March 5th. He is not sick, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, was not deposed and is also not dead, despite a swirl of rumors.

The biggest of these rumors claims the Russian president was possibly spending time with his 30-year-younger girlfriend, former Olympic star gymnast Alina Kabaeva, who reportedly gave birth to their daughter in Switzerland a few weeks ago.

Multiple Swiss media sources say Putin is now the father of a several week old baby girl born to him by Alina.

Scandals aside, Putin’s disappearance also raised serious questions. Putin is, after all, essentially Russia’s Supreme Leader. What if he really were gone?

We’ll put our money on Putin popping up again soon, but the reaction to his absence demonstrates that people are capable of thinking about a post Putin-Russia.
