Fatal Porsche Crash: Two commercial airline pilots die in crash of terrestrial variety
  • 9 years ago
Two pilots from Cathay Pacific Airlines died last week in a horrific car accident. Michael Tam, age 28, and Ian Wong, age 27, were first and second officers trained to fly Cathay’s fleet of Boeing 777s.

The two had gone out earlier in the evening to meet three other pilots from Cathay and its sister airline Dragonair.

Wong was driving when he lost control of his Porsche and the car struck the guardrails along the side of the road. The angle of the guardrails and the speed of the car caused the vehicle to flip into the air and rocket into a flyover pillar before crashing onto the grass below.

The car burst into flames and was a smoking inferno for a good 20 minutes before fire crews arrived to douse the fire. Unfortunately, both pilots burned to death before emergency services arrived.

Police speculate that the driver may have been speeding as the area is one that is popular with street racers.

An autopsy will be conducted to review the general health of the driver as well as his level of intoxication.
