The bodies of five dead babies were found inside a house in southwestern France on Thursday.

Police were called to a property in Louchats, close to Bordeaux after a man found a dead baby inside a cooler bag in his home, French media Sud Ouest reported. The baby is believed to have been born within the last 48 hours.

After a search of the house, police found the corpses of four more babies in a freezer, AFP reported.

The man said he did not know about his wife’s pregnancy. She reportedly gave birth at home alone.

The man has been taken into custody while his wife was hospitalised, according to Reuters and AFP.
