Chile’s ALMA radio telescope has captured a highly detailed image of a nearly contiguous Einstein ring.

Chile’s ALMA radio telescope has captured a highly detailed image of a complete Einstein ring. 

The light itself is emitting from a starburst galaxy located about 12 billion light years from earth. 

 What’s making it appear circular is another galaxy that is positioned between it and Earth. 

The closer galactic entity is causing a bending of the light that passes over it, resulting in a phenomenon called gravitational lensing.
