Modern day slavery: California restaurateur accused of enslaving his chef in human trafficking case

An Indian national claims he was beaten and forced to work without pay for three years, according to an LA Times report.

Police on Tuesday arrested the man’s employer, Pardeep Kumar, at the Tandoori grill in Valencia, after receiving an email from the 55-year-old victim’s brother in Mumbai, alerting them of the situation.

Despite the allegations, Kumar was released on Friday due to lack of sufficient evidence. The alleged victim plans to return to India.
