Women of Two Homelands
On August 15, 1945, Korea won its independence from Japan.
However, there were women who could not enjoy this freedom.
They were "Japanese wives," Japanese women with Korean husbands, and Korean Japanese women who had no place to call home in Korea.
Jang Bu-deok is a "Japanese wife." Her Japanese name is Kyoko Ikeda.
As a Japanese woman who married a Korean man, she couldn't even return to her homeland after she lost her husband and children during the Korean War. She also had to live the past 70 years of her life facing discrimination. Her wish is to visit Najarewon, a welfare center where elderly Japanese women live.
Many Japanese women like Jang have passed away, and there's only one place where their gathering still takes place: Busan Lotus Gathering. A few remaining Japanese women get together once a month.
Japanese weren't the only people whose lives were completely changed by history.
Hwang Jeong-sun's mother was a Korean woman who went to Japan for marriage.
Unable to overcome discrimination, she came back to Korea with three of her five children. Hwang Jeong-sun was born as the third child. Now, her only remaining sibling is a younger brother who grew up in Japan. She meets her younger brother for the first time in years. What will their reunion be like?
These women have carried the scars of history in their hearts for decades.
Stories of those who experienced great hardships in both Korea and Japan as well as the efforts of the Busan Lotus Gathering are told on March 11 on Arirang Prime.

한국이 일제로부터 해방을 이뤄냈던 1945년 8월 15일.
그러나 진정한 해방을 맞이하지 못했던 여자들이 있었다.
흔히 '일본인 처'라고 불러왔던 한국인 남편과 결혼한 일본인 여자들과 귀국해도 고향에 생활기반이 없었던 재일한국인 여자들이다.
장부덕(85)은 한국인 남편과 결혼한 '일본인 처'이다.
그녀의 일본 이름은 이키다 쿄코.
한국인 남편과 결혼한 그녀는 한국전쟁에 남편과 아이를 모두 잃고 고향으로 돌아가지도 못했다.
또한 일본인이라는 이유만으로 온갖 차별과 멸시를 당하며 70 평생 세월을 살아왔다.
그녀의 마지막 소원은 자신과 같은 일본인 처들이 요양하고 있는 나자레원에 가보는 것이다.
세월이 흘러 많은 일본인 처들이 세상을 떠났고 아직까지 일본인 처들의 모임이 유지되고 있는 곳은 단 한군데, 부산 부용회 뿐이다. 몇 명 남지 않은 일본인 처들은 매달 한 번씩 모여 모임을 갖는다.
역사 속에 자신의 삶을 빼앗겨 버린 사람들은 일본인 뿐 만이 아니었다.

황정순(79)는 일본으로 시집간 어머니를 두었었다.
일본으로 시집간 한국인 어머니는 일본인들의 차별을 못 이기고 결국 한국으로 돌아왔다.
어머니의 귀국으로 자식들은 일본과 한국에 뿔뿔이 흩어지게 되었다.
5형제 중 황정순은 셋째 딸이었다.
현재 남아있는 형제는 자신과 일본에 남아있던 남동생뿐이다.
몇 년 만에 일본의 남동생을 만나러 가게 된 황정순.
늘 마음속으로 그리워했던 남동생과의 만남은 어떨까?
