Urban Outfitters’ Underwear Ad Pulled For Too-Skinny Model

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority ordered Urban Outfitters to remove a photo of a model wearing a pair of bikini bottoms after it was determined that she appeared unhealthily thin.

Urban Outfitters Europe has been forced to pull a photo advertising a pair of ladies’ undergarments from its website after it was deemed “irresponsible and harmful.”

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority took action after it received a complaint that the model wearing the polka-dot bikini bottoms appeared too thin.

The governing body took a look at the photo and agreed that it was “irresponsible” advertising.

In particular, they called out the model’s inner thigh gap, the space between a slender woman’s thighs when the knees are close or touching.

This body feature has become trendy as an ideal look for women.

The advertising authority also noted that Urban Outfitters’ target audience was young people who may aspire to the unnatural thinness the model displayed.

Urban Outfitters defended the photo and the model, calling her physique “naturally tall and slim.”

They also provided samples of her work for other clients and noted that her waist size was 23.5 inches, a size for which they produce clothing.
