Israel sentences Hamas man to life for teen killings

An Israeli military court sentenced Hussam Kawasmeh, a Palestinian member of Hamas, to life in prison Tuesday over the killing of three Israeli youths in June.

They were later shot dead by their Palestinian captors.
The killing of the Israeli teens set off a cycle of violence over the summer -- including the murder of a 16-year-old Palestinian by three Israeli teens -- which culminated in a 50-day war between Israel and Hamas militants.
Officials say some 2,100 Palestinians died in the July-August conflict -- mostly civilians.
67 Israeli soldiers and six civilians in Israel were also killed.
