PESHAWAR: A convict, Niaz Muhammed involved in Musharraf attack case, has been executed in Peshawar early this morning, SAMAA reported on Wednesday.

Niaz Muhammed was shifted to Peshawar from Haripur some days ago. The convict belonged to Swabi.

It should be mentioned here that Aqeel alias Dr. Usman, the lone convict in 2009 GHQ attack case, and Arshad Maherban who was involved in attack on Pervez Musharraf, were the first two who were sent to gallows. They were hanged till death on December 21, six years after the moratorium on capital punishment was lifted.

Ahead of execution, source said, arrangements were made for a meeting of condemned prisoner with their family members.

It is pertinent to note here that Peshawar tragedy that occurred on December 16 (Tuesday) claimed lives of at least 150, mostly children among them. Hours after the brutal Taliban attack, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced on Wednesday an end to the moratorium on the death penalty in terror-related cases. --SAMAA
