Travel industry giants United Airlines and Orbitz Worldwide are suing a 22-year-old who’s helping people get cheap flights.

Aktarer Zaman is the young man they’re after and it’s because he runs a money-saving airfare search site called Skiplagged.com.

The low prices that can be found on it are possible due to what’s called ‘hidden city’ ticketing.

It works by finding a lower priced flight that has a stopover at the desired destination.

Consumers can take advantage of the savings by simply not getting back on the plane once they’ve gotten where they actually wanted to go.

Zaman didn’t come up with the workaround as it’s something that in-the-know travelers have been doing for some time.

He just made it easier for the general public to take advantage of the ticketing loophole.

Both United Airlines and Orbitz are saying that in doing so he’s created ‘unfair competition’ and identified the practice as being one that’s prohibited.

They’re asking for the 75 thousand dollars they’ve allegedly lost as a result of Skiplagged’s existence.

Zaman says he hasn’t made a profit from his site, and though he’s not commented on the legal action he is getting ready to fight the suit filed against him.

He’s started an online funding campaign to help pay for legal fees.
