Dozens die in Nigeria bombings

The first of the bomb attacks in northern Nigeria on Monday was at this bus station in Gombe.

Two explosions went off in quick succession.

At least 20 people were killed.

Emergency services officials said twice as many were wounded.

Some hours later another bomb exploded at this market in Bauchi.

At least seven died in that blast.

Another 19 people have been wounded but medical staff were saying on Monday the total casualty figures weren't yet clear.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) SAEED ABUBAKAR, DEPUTY MEDICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN, SAYING:

"There was a mass casualty resulting from the bomb blast that occurred somewhere around the market there. Now, up till now we are still getting casualties coming in."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for either attack.

But Boko Haram insurgents have repeatedly targeted civilians in the north where they're trying to carve out an Islamic state.
