Benedict Cumberbatch named by Marvel as Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange, one of Marvel Comics' oldest characters and a member of the New Avengers, is heading to the big screen. Although the movie about the neurosurgeon who turns to magic after a life-changing car crash was announced in May 2013, it was only on December 4 that they announced its star - Benedict Cumberbatch.

The 'Sherlock' star stepped out for the first time since the announcement at the Moet British Independent Film Awards, where he picked up the honorary Variety Award, and talked about being announced as the sorcerer supreme.
