Mars Curiosity rover finds evidence of lake

NASA’s Mars Curiosity rover has discovered evidence that billions of years ago a lake once filled the 154km wide Gale crater where the rover is exploring.

It has sent back data concerning stacks of rocks containing water-deposited sediment, bolstering belief that the planet was at one time suitable for microbial life.

The new studies point to a series of of wet and dry times in the crater challenging a previously held notion that Mars’ period of warm climate was early and short-lived.
