A St. Louis community is grieving and seeking justice after a Bosnian man was allegedly killed by teenagers. 32-year-old Zemir Begic was attacked early Sunday morning after the suspects purportedly struck him with hammers resulting in severe injuries to his face, mouth, abdomen and head.

The victim’s wife had witnessed the horrific beating. Police said Begic was in his vehicle when the juveniles approached the car and started damaging it.

Begic stepped out of his car and the teenagers reportedly began shouting at him and struck him repeatedly.

Begic was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspects fled the scene on foot. Two of the juveniles, aged 15 and 16, were located and detained not long after the crime.

According to police a 17-year-old male surrendered himself on Sunday evening in connection with the homicide. Following the brutal killing, protestors in the Bosnian community banded together and blocked off traffic.

As a response, St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson stated “I heard your message loud and clear. You want to make sure you are safe. I want to make sure you are safe in every neighborhood in our city.”

No potential motive has been released to the public. A GoFundMe page has since been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
