Ecuador recognized by UN for poverty reduction

Ecuador was recognized at the 11th Annual Meeting of the United Nations for its drastic reduction in inequality and poverty and advances in sustainable development. Such achievements have been occurring since the beginning of President Rafael Correa's first term in 2007. The Good Living/Buen Vivir development goals have been attributed as a cause for this success. Poverty has been reduced from 38% to 26% and extreme poverty has declined from 17% to 8% since 2006.
