Video watch online latest new breaking news Former Australian Test cricketer Phillip Hughes has been rushed to hospital after being knocked unconscious by a short delivery.
Hughes was on 63 batting for South Australia against New South Wales when he was hit by a bouncer from Sean Abbott at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
He was stretchered off and treated on the boundary. A helicopter arrived but he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Reports said he was in a critical condition.
Hughes is one of several batsmen in line for a possible Test recall following reports that Australian captain Michael Clarke might be ruled out of the first Test against India.
After being hit by the ball, Hughes put his hands on his knees before falling face first on to the pitch.
The match was called off.
A doctor who treated Hughes at the scene accompanied the player to Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital, Australian media reported.
