Tension simmers after car attacks in Jerusalem and West Bank

Police in Israel are on high alert... a day after two separate car attacks left one person dead and three soldiers injured.

The drivers in both cases were Palestinian, their attacks sparking fears of a new uprising in East Jerusalem.

The first incident happened at a light railway station, where a Palestinian drove into a crowd, killing one and injuring more than a dozen people.

The city has set up large concrete blocks in and around the stops in a bid to keep passengers safe.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PASSENGER AMY SAROUSI SAYING:

"I feel safer today that I see that they have the roadblocks. I hope that I don't have to stand behind them all the time but at least you know they are there."

The second incident happened outside this West Bank refugee camp, where a man drove into three soldiers at a nearby military post. The soldiers were injured, one seriously, and the driver of the van is still being sought.
