Katie Melua is a popular Georgian-British singer and songwriter who was deemed the UK’s top selling female artist in 2006. The 30-year-old musician recently encountered a medical issue and learned the cause of it was a living spider that had taken up residence inside her ear.

Melua visited her doctor complaining of an unusual noise inside her ear that hadn’t lessened after a week. After an ear specialist determined the root of the trouble was the spider, it was removed from her ear using a micro-vacuum.
Melua suspects the spider had come from a pair of headphones. She explained “I used these old in-ear monitors to block out sound on a flight, little spider must have been in them and crawled inside my ear and stayed there for the week.”
She added that the eight-legged creature wasn’t any trouble aside from the shuffling sounds it was causing. The singer took the small spider home with her and later released it into her garden.
Melua is happy everything worked out the way it did, as she had been afraid she might be losing her hearing.
