Britain ends combat operations in Afghanistan

The final British combat troops and last US Marines unit in Afghanistan officially ended their operations on Sunday.

In a ceremony at the regional headquarters of the international military in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, the British and American flags were folded up for the final time at the regional headquarters of the international military.

British forces transferred the neighbouring Camp Bastion to the Afghan military at the same time.

Thirteen years after the toppling of the Taliban’s radical Islamist regime, the Afghan National Army’s 215th Corps with be headquartered at the 6,500-acre base, leaving almost no foreign military presence in Helmand.
