Brazilian inmates end revolt after deal with prison authorities

Prisoners at a Brazilian jail have freed 10 guards they had been holding hostage ending a three-day standoff with the authorities.

The inmates had rebelled demanding better conditions at the over crowded jail.

A local official said the dispute ended after the prisoners’ demands to be moved to other facilities were met.

Guarapuava jail is one of several detention centres in the southern state of Paraná to have had prisoner disturbances in the last year.
