Mexico: mass graves may contain remains of missing students

Tens of thousands of protesters in Mexico are demanding justice after the grim discovery of mass graves containing the charred remains of 28 people days after dozens of students went missing.
Forty-three young people disappeared in gang-ridden Guerrero state after police reportedly opened fire on their bus, killing six and detaining the survivors.
There are fears that the bodies in the mass graves may be the remains of the missing students.
“I lost my nephew and I want justice,” said Rufino Ramirez Jimenez, the uncle of one of the students killed in the attack. “Given that they brutally killed him, we want justice, that’s it.”
“Justice in Ayotzinqpa,” demanded Claudia, one of the protesters gathered near Mexico City’s Angel of Independence monument.
“Justice that they be found alive. End impunity in Mexico. We are demanding the culprits pay what they need to pay,” she added.
As anger spreads across Mexico, 22 police officers have been arrested in connection with the investigation.
They are suspected of conspiring with a local criminal gang, Guerreros Unidos, to murder the students.
The Mexican army is now guarding the grave site and is trying to identify the bodies.
That painstaking task could take two weeks to complete.
