Horses are beautiful creatures that, like all animals, should receive kind and proper treatment. Recently, nearly a dozen horses were rescued from a slaughter farm.

Recently, nearly a dozen horses were rescued from a slaughter farm.

Staffers at the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or SPCA described the illegal farm as ‘gruesome’. The creatures were found on Monday.

Miami-Dade Police Department’s Agricultural Patrol made the discovery and had the animals moved a few miles away to the SPCA rescue center. A man who was located on the property, 49-year-old Osmany Gomez, is now facing charges of confinement of animals without food and water and animal cruelty.

When cops got to the scene, Gomez said he was a caretaker. Officers noticed his body was covered in blood. Gomez claimed he had just killed pigs for consumption.

The horses on the farm were showing signs of malnourishment and the suspect admitted that the animals were not given food, but instead had only been eating grass.

11 horses were rescued along with one cow. Body parts from deceased animals were located on the grounds. It remains unclear if any horses had yet been slaughtered for meat.
