Australian police are searching for answers after a man allegedly killed his girlfriend and boiled parts of her dismembered body.

On Saturday evening, Marcus Volke ran from officers who responded to his apartment in Brisbane, Australia, following reports of a foul smell.

During his escape, Volke committed suicide by cutting his own throat. Inside their apartment, officers located some body parts of his Indonesian girlfriend in a pot on the stove.

Other portions of her dismembered body were discovered in trash bins outside the home. Police believe Volke was attempting to boil her body in chemicals when they arrived at the apartment to look into the cause of the foul odor.

Although the law enforcement probe is still in the early stages, investigators are looking into whether or not the victim’s alleged prostitution activity had anything to do with her death.

Reportedly the couple had moved into their shared apartment just weeks before the murder-suicide. The two met while working together on cruise ships.

The whole situation is a shock to the friends and family of both parties. Volke’s mother Dorothy claimed to have spoken to her son about a week before he died.

She stated “He was happy and he was coming home for Christmas, everything was normal.”
