Man brandishes gun near Ethiopian embassy, shots fired

The U.S. Secret Service detained a man after a report that shots were fired on Monday (September 29) near the Ethiopian embassy in Washington, D.C., a spokesman for the agency said.

The shots were reported at about 12:15 p.m. EDT (1615 GMT) and there have been no injuries reported, Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary said in an emailed statement.

Washington, D.C. police, State Department officials and Secret Service agents are on the scene, the spokesman said. Repeated phone calls to the embassy went unanswered.
