Former Pope Benedict appears at Vatican event for the elderly

STORY: Former pope Benedict appeared to be in good health as he arrived for a gathering of elderly people in St. Peter's Square on Sunday (September 28) morning.

Benedict, who arrived on foot, smiled and waved at people as he stepped outside St. Peter's Basilica.

This was the third time the former pontiff, 87, made a public appearance since his resignation in February 2013.

Arriving for the event, Francis walked over to his predecessor and the two Popes embraced each other warmly while Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli performed "Con Te Partiro".
