United States war planes backed by Arab allies have launched over 200 airstrikes on ISIL positions in Syria on a second day of aerial bombardment.

US Central Command say Islamic State headquarters, training camps and barracks have been hit as well as Nusra Front positions near Syria’s border with Turkey.

Washington says Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain and the UAE have all been involved.

In the Kurdish town of Kobani in Syria fierce fighting is ongoing as Kurdish peshmerga defend positions after the area was besieged by ISIL fighters in recent days.

Reports from Turkey’s border with Syria suggest thousands of Kurds are heading to area to join the fight, supported by US aircraft .
