Hollande: French aircraft hit Islamic State target, "destroyed it completely"

These are the French fighter jets deployed to join the fight against Islamic State in Iraq, sent in to carry out air strikes on IS targets in the northeastern part of the country.

President Francois Hollande says the mission was successful.

SOUNDBITE: French President Francois Hollande saying:

"This morning, at 0940 and in line with the orders that I gave, Rafale aircraft hit an objective and destroyed it completely. The target was in north-eastern Iraq and was a logistical depot that was used for operations."

French fighter jets have been staging in the United Arab Emirates. And Hollande says the mission won't end with this latest round of air strikes.

SOUNDBITE: French President Francois Hollande saying:

"Other actions will take place in the coming days with the same aim: to weaken this terrorist organisation, and to support the Iraqi authorities and soldiers as well as the Peshmerga in Iraqi Kurdistan."
