A 40-year-old man in Yonkers, New York tragically passed away while attempting to rescue a child. At about 7 in the evening on Sunday, police began receiving reports pertaining to a child in the Hudson River.

During a yearly community barbeque, the child and his mother, Thema Martin had been out and about. The mom had to use the bathroom so she asked a friend to keep an eye on her 6-year-old son.

When Martin returned, she realized people were yelling because her boy was in the water. Boyce, also known as ‘Scoop’ Coleman and several others immediately jumped in the water to save him.

Martin further elaborated “Scoop was out of breath or something because I see him stop a little from my son and came up and I see his neck, but then after that I ..turned back around and I didn’t see him anymore.”

The child was pulled to safety, however Scoop disappeared in the river. Despite police and rescue efforts, sadly it wasn’t until around 8pm when he was removed from the river.

He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. An investigation into the incident is now underway.
