STORY: Clashes erupted in East Jerusalem on Monday evening (September 8), during a funeral procession for 16-year-old Mohammed Sinokrot, who died of wounds sustained in minor clashes with Israeli border police last week.

Israeli border police fired tear gas and stun grenades as the funeral approached the main police station in East Jerusalem, with Palestinians hurling stones toward the border police.

A police spokeswoman said three people were detained. According to Palestinian medics, 30 people were injured, one critically.

Violent protests in the city have been raging almost nightly beyond the spotlight on the Gaza war, leading to a crackdown by Israeli police in which hundreds of Palestinians have been detained.
