U.S. conducts humanitarian airdrops to IS-seized Iraqi town

U.S. troops are on the move in Iraq.

New video released by the U.S. military shows preparations underway for humanitarian air drops.

These emergency supplies were heading for the Iraqi Shi'ite town of Amerli, where Islamic State militants had trapped the civilian population.

President Barack Obama had authorized the drops along with airstrikes over the weekend.

The move came in coordination with efforts by Iraqi security forces and Shi'ite militias to take back the town.

The drops contained 52,000 pounds of ready to eat meals and water for the town's mostly ethnic Turkmen population.
