A young leopard was rescued from an open farm well adjoining Mansinghdeo Wildlife Sanctuary near Khapa city in India's western province of Maharashtra on Friday (August 29).

The leopard is suspected to have fallen into the well while chasing its prey, and was found struggling to stay afloat in the water.

Around 50 people helped haul the animal out, including police officers and wildlife officials, by using a cot and rope.

Once the leopard reached the surface, it darted into the jungle, raising fears among the villagers that it could pose a threat to adults and children in the fields.
