A woman from California was recently cited after she got into a giraffe enclosure at a zoo in Wisconsin.

24-year-old Amanda Hall reportedly scaled a fence at the Henry Vilas Zoo on Saturday. She made it past the first barrier and almost over the second one when she was approached by one of the animals.

The young 12-foot-tall giraffe named Wally gave Hall a lick before turning in the opposite direction and kicking her in the face.
Hall required around 10 stitches to her lip after the encounter.

Although police say she climbed the fence, Hall has a different story of how she was able to get so close to the animal.

She claims to have hopped over a tiny three-foot high gate. She says she never tried to scale the second fence, but instead the giraffe poked its head through a hole and ate grass out of her palm.

Hall explained “He had some grass and nuzzled my head. He licked me and then I got a kick to the chin. It was a shock.”

Despite the conflicting accounts, Hall is now facing a nearly $700 fine for 'suspicion of harassment of zoo animals’. She plans to fight the citation.
